Washington DC : It's a wrap!

Today we visited the Newseum, we found parking garage closer to it, so walking in the rain was not as bad. For this particular museum you will have to pay an entry fee, there is a cafe with 4 different stations of food to choose if you decide to have a quick bite over there. They were having an Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery.Award-Winning Images and Photographers Who Took Them.
Some of the photographs have become icons of their time: Marines raising Old Glory on Iwo Jima, the joyful reunion of a returning prisoner of war and his family, a firefighter cradling an injured infant after the Oklahoma City bombing. Those and other images record the defining moments of our world and time. I walked around  looking at every picture, it truly was a moving experience.

One quote that I found  truly inspiring:
If it makes you laugh
If it makes you cry,
If it rips out your heart
that's a good picture

-Eddie Adams,

Here is one of my favorite pictures this one put a huge smile on my face.

Goodbye Washington.

Washington DC take 4.

We spent the whole day in downtown, the weather was perfect. We never planned anything we just go and do. We walked to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and then paddle a boat on the river. I love reading all the quotes written on the walls, as you can see in the first collage I am in my zone.

We walked also to to the White House, The Red Cross building which is truly a beautiful building.

Had a break to sit down and just watch people as the go by

Trip to the Holocaust museum Washington DC take 3

Today we visited the Holocaust museum ,I came out sad and angry how people could these horrific things to people who did not do anything bad. Before I enter I saw this sign I had to take a picture of.

I have always been drawn to books about genocide.  I think it might be just to me to be reminder to be thankful and not take anything for granted.
When I came to the US I came eye to eye with discrimination and I remember how I felt cause people would say stuff about my color or my accent. I vowed that when I have children to always instruct them to be respectful of others, no matter their color of their skin, their accent, their background and their religion.
I have thaught them to embrace others, to be open for friends from other cultures, to eat different kind of foods to experience a whole different world that they are used too.
As I look now my kids have friends like I would say : United Nations. I love that!

This picture and quote in the museum really struck me and I had to share it.

We are the shoes, We are the last witnesses

We are shoes from grandchildren and grandfathers.

                                                      From Prague, Paris and Amsterdam

And because we are only made of fabric and leather

And not of blood and flesh,

Washington DC take 2: Just random.

I woke up to windy and chilly weather here in DC but realize it while I was already outside, so I did not have time to go change into warmer clothes, I had to just suck it in or like someone I know would say harden the f... up!
I had a Mango shake at Ben's and Jerry and it was delicious. We ended up driving an hour before we found a parking spot, next time we will take the metro or the bus.
We decided to go visit the National Archives, it took us an hour to wait but it in the end I thought it was worth the wait  to see The Ddeclaration of Independence , the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

A taste of Washington DC

Today we started the day by going to the Open Air Museum, and then after a quick bite we drove to Washington DC and walked around for an hour. I was happy to be surrounded by my favorite flowers, the gorgeous Orchids at the Museum of Natural History. I love the little jumping me and K. did at the Mall and triggered others to do the same.

One of my favorite things to do is taking pictues of machines , I love the structure, the metals and bolts all working together. Art speaks to me and inspires me all the time,  I got to see some beautiful Sculptures in a park. One of them was made by a dutch guy named Willem de Kooning from Rotterdam (1904-1997).

Something cool I got to do was .... I got  to whisper a wish to a wishing tree..........shhhhh I can't tell or it won't come out:)!

It was a beautiful day where I got to walk around in the city and just looked at random people, I love this everyone is dressed different, different cultures going on I just love it , I could do this for hours. Now I am all pooped and ready to catch some zzzzz, it  sure was one productive day.
The weather peeps on the TV has been saying that tomorrow it's going to be in the 70's here, I can't wait. Till then guys, thanks for reading and have a great week.
